This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.
There's a pedigree to this restaurant, as the co-owner Kevin Campbell, comes from a family that's been serving Greek food to Glaswegians for generations. The current taverna is a rebirth of the former Strathbungo bistro, sadly missed by mousakka -loving Southsiders. The experience shows as the food has an authenticity about it. The modern but cosy interior is candle-lit, with light coffee-coloured walls and a tiled mosaic. Alongside Greek staples are tempting Mediterranean style specials, such as grilled swordfish. The hot mezze option makes a good beginning – spicy quality meatballs and warm dolmades, delicate vine leaf parcels, stuffed with long-grain rice, fresh herbs and toasted pine nuts. There is also cool, creamy tzatziki, lemony taramasalata and freshly cooked pita bread. For mains, lamb, seafood, vegetable or chicken souvlaki are marinated in garlic, oregano, lemon juice and olive oil. The flavours come through well in the lamb, the chicken skewer less so but are well presented with salad and rice. To finish, the baklava is a small nut and honey delight, with almost magically thin flaky filo pastry.
- High point: The best dolmades and baklava in town
- Low point: Bland chicken

Athena Greek TavernaReport -
My daughter and I visited the Athena this evening, we were going to cancel our table because of the weather but because we had a living social voucher we would have lost it. We were so pleased we didn't, the food was excellent, the service was just as good and there was no rush to leave when we had finished, well worth braving the rain for, thank you for a lovely evening, it brought back some good memories of holidays to Greece.

Athena Greek TavernaReport -
What a great restaurant.
Great atmosphere, superb staff, excellent food and just the best value ever.
One of the wonderful things about this Greek food is that it is hot.
Wouldn't worry about the comment regarding limited choice of dessert. You won't have any room.
You will find parking nearby.
Just try it, great experience.
Loved it. Thank you Kevin.
