This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.
Housed in a former butcher shop – meat hooks and a delivery bike hang from the ceiling, a funky retro jukebox sits in the corner while original Edwardian wall tiles are scrawled with the slogan ‘Keep Partick weird’. The small restaurant located through the bar feels cosy and informal with basic wooden tables and chairs, a handful of leather booths and dim candle-lighting allowing for more intimate dining. The menu focuses on quality pub grub with starters such as Stornoway black pudding with poached egg, Cullen skink or mussels, which are small and not as plump as you may like but the cider and leek broth is tasty and robust. Elsewhere the usual burgers, steak pie or salads can be found, while their beer-battered fish is outstanding with two fat fillets in rich crispy batter, emerald green mushy peas and proper hand-cut chips. Stick around after dinner and enjoy the atmosphere in the bar with a cold beer or one of their unusual cocktails.
- High point: Quality pub grub
- Low point: Gets cramped on busy nights

Velvet ElvisReport -
Had the misfortune to be dragged to Velvet Elvis for a meal which was an obvious mistake. The food is not of the quality they would try convince you off and poorly priced for what you get, especially the burger which was just ok. The moules frites were poor and the majority of drinks over priced but worst of all was the service which was slow and unfriendly. Atmosphere was non-existent and further ruined when the DJ started and the tacky menus on old vinyl LP covers was just weak and seemed unhygenic. Certainly not worth leaving the beaten track to find this place.

Velvet ElvisReport -
I used to really enjoy Velvet - until I booked a group into the venue. I was asked to make a deposit (£5/head), but I was told on the phone that if someone didn't show up, then their deposit would just be taken off the bill. When the bill arrived, I was told by the manager that I LOST the deposit for every person that didn't show up! This was after I offered to move to a smaller table to accommodate any other parties in the restaurant - and was told by the manager that wasn't necessary! When I questioned this, and explained that's not what was told to me when I booked, the manager told me that I was mistaken, and possibly confused! Not only that, but she did not count the entire group, but based the amount of deposit she kept on who ordered what (ie. ordering an appetizer and a beer was not enough - had to be a full meal).
The entire experience soured my evening, and I would caution anyone who would like to book a table to be prepared to lose their deposit.
