Il Cappuccino's distinctive wood façade invites curiosity and happily does not disappoint on entry: not just a cornucopia of deli delights but a bustling, friendly staff – at least five – behind the counter. This means a long-ish lunchtime queue disappears fast. Wraps, pitta pockets, various fresh-tasting breads and rolls can be filled according to individual taste or served from the main menu: some specials – from a list of just over a dozen – have comical names such Clatty Pat (referring to the once legendary local disco) and Niagra Viagra (chorizo, gouda and spicy mayonnaise) but fillings are, on the whole, traditional. Few complaints about that when the quality is this high. Vegans and vegetarians could be better catered for, however. Breakfast choices range from the pretty posh – smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel – to the plainly popular such as rolls with bacon or sliced sausage. More good news for early risers is that the coffee hits the mark, and all types are £1.80 or less with espresso a snip at £1. Just ten pence more gets a regular soup so the budget-conscious leave as happy as everyone else.
