Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.

Owned by the same people as nearby Kilimanjaro and with a similar, downsized menu, Press Coffee serves up great coffee to a largely student clientele. Formerly a bookshop, it’s now a bright, light and minimally decorated space with clean lines reminiscent of Scandinavian design and a scattering of drawings adorning the white walls. The menu consists of panini, soups in classic varieties such as pea and ham, carrot and coriander and wild mushroom, and smoothies such as pineapple & coconut and strawberry & banana. There’s also a handful of cakes, flapjacks, brownies, scones and shortbread. A sanctuary of calm in the middle of studentville, Press Coffee is really all about the coffee though, and having one while reading the paper, listening to the tinkly piano music coming through the speakers and watching the world go by is no bad way to relax between lectures. The food won’t necessarily wow you, but it won’t break the bank either.

  • High point: Bright blue coffee cups
  • Low point: Food menu veers towards the unexciting

Reviews of Press Coffee (30 Buccleuch Street, Edinburgh)

1. djw, Edin – 24 January 2010, 9:25pmPress CoffeeReport

Great coffee - only minor quibble the fact that the home made scones come out split in half and toasted (clearly under a grill) when they ask if you want it warmed up, rather than warmed up in an oven as happens (used to happen?) at Kilimanjarro
