With new menus and a makeover in early 2011, Tiffin Rooms offers Balbir's own take on Indian ‘street food’ where fresh ingredients, creativity and skill shine through. Split into two distinct areas, the venue’s entrance leads into a vast open-plan bar where you can watch experienced chefs at work. The dark interior, stone pillars and downlights create a stylish urban vibe. The chatty staff delight with their knowledge of India’s cuisine – its history, ingredients and etiquette. Signature poori, tandoori salmon, and kati kebab are a taster from the bar, which is well-stocked with quality wines and continental beers. The gol gappas are awesome bite-sized crisp puri capsules that burst with refreshing tamarind and chilli chickpea flavours that linger, while the spiced dosa pancakes are delicious, served with home-made creamy coconut chutney and samber daal. Also featured are fresh chicken, lamb or vegetable curries thali-style, or dine à la carte in the private dining room. Regular live entertainments, such as jazz nights and pianists, are a new addition – making for a whole night’s dining and diversion.
- High point: Authentic, tasty and skilful Indian street food
- Low point: Staff attention on the wane for desserts and coffees

Balbir's Tiffin RoomsReport -
My wife and I visited the Kelvingrove for an afternoon of culture. My wife is heavily pregnant so tires easily and can't always eat a lot. We both love Indian and while headed to town we encountered the Tiffin Rooms. The place was empty but we gave it a go. We were greeted by an incredibly enthusiastic chap who seemed to know straight away what my wife needed so offered my wife a seat at the bar with tea or coffee. My wife loves coffee and she loved the coffee at the Tiffin Rooms. I tried the Tea as the waiter was very keen. Wow. I have never been so impressed by Tea. We ate 2 courses at the bar and 4 at the table. The portions were small so lots of them and the waiter chose. The food was second to none. Dishes which we had never seen before. All this for £34 and my wife can't wait to go back. Thank you Tiffin Rooms. PS try the bar snacks, beware they are messy, but exciting.

I normally buy my takeaway curry from Balbir's in Church Street. Tonight i went to the Balbir's Tiffin Rooms in Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow. My daughter and her husband went there too to buy a takeaway curry. My husband paid cash and said that he felt that the waiter expected a tip as he handed the change on a plate. My son-in-law paid with his bank card and was asked if he wanted to leave a tip! For a takeaway curry! This was a first - and certainly the last! He was most embarrassed and replied that he was "only getting a takeaway".
