A little slice of sunshine has appeared in Morningside in the form of Café Blush. It’s a happy little café that offers an almost overwhelming welcome, like you’re one of the family. The menu covers all the classics and delivers them well. The breakfasts are served all day and include free range scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and toast, hot toasted waffles dusted with icing sugar, bacon and maple syrup. There are toasties, sandwiches, paninis and baked potatoes, all with a great range fillings such as roast chicken, roasted peppers and mozzarella or chorizo, sun-dried tomato pesto with jalapeños and mozzarella. And, for those yummy mummies watching the carbs, there are salads such as grilled haloumi with char-grilled peppers or hot bacon with sliced red onion and parmesan shavings on a bed of rocket. One of the best things about Blush is that it’s very child friendly. The under fives have their own little part of the menu, which includes a choice of crustless sandwiches. And it’s not just the kids they care about at Café Blush–they also have a great selection of gluten-free cakes and goodies.
- High point: Being given crayons and paper… or was that for the kids?
- Low point: Not a huge amount of buggy parking space
