Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

Ramzes provides a simple range of grilled meats and fish, pasta, pizza, kebabs, burgers and fried foods in a neighbourhood where local cafes and eateries have been blossoming. The fresh, modern setting decorated with hanging pieces of driftwood, relaxed lighting and comfortable furnishing reflects the owner’s effort and interest in pleasing his customers. The food is fresh, well prepared and tasty – if fairly straightforward. Starters such as the pan-fried prawns are nicely seasoned, the organic tomato and good quality mozzarella generous. Grilled meats include four different cuts of steak (cooked to order), ribs, chicken and pork, with various sauces and accompanying salads. Pizzas, pasta and salads provide standard but acceptable vegetarian options. Simple desserts include a warmed apple cake and fruit cheesecake, both with ice-cream. Ramzes' reasonable prices, long opening hours, friendly service, free wifi, BYOB and home delivery policies will appeal to a range of clients and the owner is committed to adapting his new venture to customer feedback. Having only opened in early 2009, Ramzes is finding its feet and eager to make customers feel at home. The menu is expected to evolve over time.

  • High point: Low-key dining but eager to please
  • Low point: Not the kind of food to set the world on fire
