This traditional family restaurant is a stalwart of the Edinburgh Indian restaurant scene having opened its doors 25 years ago. A neat interior, with clean table wear and a calm, relaxing atmosphere is set off with a beautifully colourful wall painting depicting the tale of Tippoo Sahib, who defended the Indian Kingdom of Mysore from the British in the 18th century. Respectful staff provide beautifully crispy freshly made poppadums, both spicy and plain, with a lovely tangy lime chutney as you wait for the main delicacies. The ingredients here are locally bought and the spices ground in-house creating lovely, balanced dishes that are not too hot or too mild. Crispy on the outside but soft and cakey on the inside, the vegetable or mixed pakora is a well above average starter. And for mains it is worth spending a little extra on a beautifully cooked tandoori option – the king prawn is satisfyingly seared and well marinated in yoghurt and cumin with a hint of coriander.

me and my wife and son came to this place on a recommendation from our hotel. we were greeted my happy waiters and shown to our table as we looked at the menu the staff were playing with my 5 year old son as it gave us time to look at the menu. we still could not decide and was offered recommendations which we decided to take. we really enjoyed the starters as they were freshly made main course was even better we forgot what we had but do remember that one of the dishes was DESI LAMB which is spicy lamb with Indian spice and mint oh and peshwari nan was very good to. we enjoyed our time here and we will be back soon. many thanks
