True, you could mistake Hot Hot’s opaque steamy windows for those of a launderette. And yes, the lighting and décor are only slightly more atmospheric than those of a prison canteen – but that’s not the point. Hot Hot does only one thing – the Hot Pot – but it does it well. Each Formica table boasts a predictably utilitarian hot plate, upon which stands a partitioned bowl with spicy, chilli-infused stock on one side and a more subtle soup on the other. Shortly after being seated by the smiling proprietor, Jack, and armed with a cold Tsing Tao lager, unlimited ingredients are brought out for you to cook in the stock. Rice noodles, kelp and potato; wafer-thin rounds of beef, pork and lamb, and even whole shrimp (for an extra couple of pounds). All take just a couple of minutes and are served alongside a delicious sesame and peanut sauce. It’s a messy business, and doing all the work yourself may not be to everyone’s taste, but the experience is fun – and since everything is poached in stock, you won’t feel all ‘fried out’ afterwards.
- High point: Great variety in the all-you-can-eat ingredients
- Low point: A bit soulless when it's not busy

My girlfriend tracked this place down when she was missing the tastes of home. Loved it. Order more of anything you like for the Hot Pot, no extra charge (but you'll probably be full, you get an nice pile of things for the pot). There doesn't seem to be corkage anymore.

Hot Hot ChineseReport -
I stumbled across this cafe a few weeks ago, and am very glad I did. At first glance, most of the menu doesn't appear to be in English, however that adds to the authenticity and fun. Here you won't find your typical sweet and sour battered chicken or beef in black bean sauce. Think instead of traditional chinese dumplings, stews and interesting soup concoctions. It all tastes like proper, home-made chinese cooking should be. I urge you to go along and try it out!
