This review is taken from the 2010 edition.
With its motto 'good food takes time', Spicebox has much to offer. High quality food is made with care but without the use of MSG by knowledgeable staff. Most dishes can be prepared mild, medium or spicy to your taste, and many can include more unusual ingredients like mussels, haddock and squid. The extensive menu, with plenty of vegetarian options, features curries, noodle dishes and stir-fries from all over Thailand, a far cry from the standard fare offered by most Thai restaurants in town. Gang Ped Yang, a spicy red curry with duck, has wonderful heat and a creamy texture. The mixed starter includes fish-cakes, beer-battered prawns, chicken satay, pork ribs and spring rolls. Spicebox also offers 10–15% student discounts throughout the week and weekends. From Sunday to Thursday, credit-crunch meals are also offered: cheaply priced banquets for up to six people.
- High point: Restaurant-quality food
- Low point: Delivery can take a while
