This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.
Edinburgh’s branch of the Glasgow-founded tapas bar chain may have something of the city centre canteen about it, perfectly placed as it finds itself for Saturday afternoon shoppers and groups of office staff seeking an after-work bite. It’s a welcoming and efficiently run establishment, though, with décor of sun-baked Moorish tiling (even on the tables) adding a bit of Alhambran authenticity to its Andalusian title. The tapas selection doesn’t stray too far from the familiar – patatas bravas, gambas pil pil and albondigas (potatoes in tomato sauce, prawns in oil and garlic, and meatballs in tomato sauce) all feature – but there’s enough choice over the 38 selections to keep regular visitors interested. The chorizo y butifarra negra, for example, is a satisfyingly rich combination of chorizo, Andalusian black pudding and rich tomato sauce, while the pollo marinado (marinated chicken) betrays a Middle Eastern influence through its paprika and coriander flavours. Paellas are also served, as are three ‘menu del dia’, the house’s own choice of tapas for two.
- High point: Combines authenticity and popular appeal well
- Low point: As noisy and bustling as might be expected in this location

Absolutely loved this place.
Great atmosphere and the food matched the surroundings.
Large but surprisingly not too noisy although I wouldn't want to have a table too near the front door.
Will certainly return in future.

As a Christmas gift, I received vouchers for Cafe Andaluz so decided to give it another try. I'd been to the West-End version some years ago and was rather ambivalent about it.
So, I made my online booking and arrived. I was met by one of the staff who queried my booking. I told him it was an online booking and fortunately I had a copy of the online booking on my mobile phone. However, when I showed him the booking confirmation he merely shrugged his shoulders. Eventually he found a table for me and my partner.
I wasn't entriely happy with the response of the member of staff. A very simple 'sorry, our online booking system has a few problems' would have sufficed - but we didn't get that.
The food was okay, similar in quality to another of the chains, La Tasca, currently in the city. The staff serving us were friendly and efficient.
However, given the 'greeting' on arrival it's unlikely I'll return to Cafe Andaluz.

have gone here a couple of times now and have to say that i love it more on each visit.
the only thing that lets it down is that they cannot provide the spanish weather. when inside you feel that you are in an authenic spanish restuarant (not the tourist kind). lovely food and the staff and pleasent and helpful.
The wine is fairly priced with some great choices.

Not strictly traditional with lots of different Mediterranean dishes thrown in as well as Spanish. Some good, some standard. As for the Patatas Bravas - the mainstay of any good Tapas restaurant... I prefer La Tasca's - sorry! Great place for a group booking - good atmosphere. Not too impressed with one of the managers there - spoke down to one of the waiters in front of us like he was a mere minion!!
