This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.
If the traffic and unrelenting noise of Leith Walk and Great Junction Street are getting you down, then Golden Bridge is a quiet centre of calm and an ideal place to recharge and raise your spirits. Everything from the classical Chinese music and the whispered recommendations from Sue Ma to the lighting and décor are designed to put you at ease. The menu is easy to navigate and the food itself straightforward but delicious. Grilled pork dumplings are a little more irregular than the machine-moulded variety you may find elsewhere, which inspires confidence. The golden roasted duck is crisp rather than chewy, and served with just enough sauce to deliver the requisite chilli kick. The restaurant is unlicensed, but the corkage is a very reasonable £1.50 so remember to BYOB if Tsing-Tao is the only thing that will extinguish the Szechuan fire in your belly. On the whole, a gem: not a gaudy diamond bauble, perhaps, but a gem nonetheless.
- High point: The peaceful, unpretentious atmosphere
- Low point: There's no liquor license and the pub next door looks like Begbie's local

in this unassuming place delicious treasures are found. This is one of the few Edinburgh Chinese restaarants which has traditional dishes on the menu for the average punter to order (why do so many hide these from us? - do they think we're undeserving?). The owner Su is a Sichuan native and her dishes have her home provinces trademark spice, coming from the sichuan pepper which induces a strange numbing of the tongue. They are top notch, my favourites being lions head pork meatballs, aubergine with pork and spicy garlic sauce and family style chicken, a simple fried chicken in a salty chilli sauce which is simple perfection. Also some great home made dumplings for starters, my choice being those in peppery chicken soup.
This place makes you feel like your sitting in your front room. Su's friendly service and the BYOB option make it a relaxed experience. Well worth a visit for authentic Sichuanese food.

Golden Bridge just off Great Junction Street, Leith. This is the place to be. Delicious Chinese food. Beautiful hospitality. If you are sick of all the queues in the restaurants in Edinburgh, this is the place to visit. Trust me you will not be dissappointed.

After returning from China , I tried every effort on finding decent Chinese food in Edinburgh and almost gave up until the Golden Bridge Chinese Restaurant came on the scene. The restaurant provides Szechuan food which is very popular in China - nice spicy food with lots of ginger, garlic and chilli. The food is totally different from that most Chinese restaurants in Edinburgh serve up.
I strongly recommend this tiny restaurant to the European like me: give it a try, it might become your favorite Chinese.

Fantastic Chinese food cooked there and then.Subtle flavours combined with a real family touch, makes for an authentic meal. An absolute must .
