This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.
Under new ownership for 2011, much has remained the same at Otto. With chic interiors of muted green and wood tones, giant wire lampshades and draped leather booths, it is unmistakably an upmarket cocktail bar, but the food is worth checking out too. A small menu means the kitchen can focus on detail and each dish is prepared from scratch with many locally sourced ingredients. Starters of fishcakes feature two small crispy patties sandwiched by a filling of cream cheese and topped with a perfectly cooked poached egg. It’s a nicely considered dish where the moist herby potato creates the perfect foil for the rich runny yolk. From the mains, arabiatta risotto rises above its menu description with a silky buttery sheen, lively tomato base and occasional highlights of mild chillies, while a fresh sea bream is pan-fried and served with slices of black pudding and Lyonnaise potatoes, with basil tapenade adding some zing. As befits a good bar there’s a fine wine list with many tipples available by the glass, thoughtful service, and by averaging under £15 for two courses Otto must be one of the keenest-priced eateries on Byres Road.
- High point: Colourful cooking at budget prices
- Low point: Kitchen shuts at 9pm

Was in on Saturday. Lovely environment. Was only having drinks so can't comment on the food.
However, the staff couldn't have been more miserable and unwelcoming. Not one single smile. Not one single courtesy extended to us.
Won't be back.

I went to this bar with my 16 yr old (veggie) on the University open day in June 2010. The menu was pretty good for a bar and they were really helpful with the veggie and did a 'one off' dish. The food was better than some restaurants and the price was good considering the location and nearby event. I'd go again. In fact I'll go this weekend!

Very surprised other reviews. Have been their several times both just for drinks and also for food. Food has always been lovely, as has the service.
They make great cocktails too!

We went to Otto today for "Sunday Brunch" and I will never go back. The food took a ridiculously long time to arrive. When my boyfriend asked about it after 50 minutes he was told that another table had come in before us and they needed to be served first. The restaurant was barely 1/4 full and it seems odd that they should find it so hard to cope with serving more than one table at the same time! There were 3 people at our table and the food came out one dish at a time so that one person was finished their meal by the time the final dish arrived and side dishes were cold by the time the main arrived. The food was ok but only ok. The saving grace was a very pleasant and attentive waitress who looked embarrassed by what was clearly very poor service otherwise. I will not go back and would advise anyone else to avoid it too.

Otto Bar and Grill is a terrible place. I definitely won't be wasting my time or money in here again. I took my girlfriend out for a meal and waited ages on food even though the place was empty. The food when it arrived was poor and the attitude of the staff was even worse.
So many nice places to go in the west end so avoid this one if you don't want to be disappointed.
