Set in the heart of Balloch on the shores of Loch Lomond, Golden Star is a well-established local restaurant with a spicy line in curries and other Indian favourites. This unstuffy eatery serves an aromatic assortment of familiar dishes such as chicken dhansak and Kashmiri lamb alongside tasty house specialities including king prawn with green chillies, onions and mushrooms in a Karahi sauce.

I was just idly checking to see if this place has even been deemed worthy of a review and I have to say that I really could add very much to no. 4 below, which describes it perfectly. I think the Indian waiter must have had a day off, as we had a rather large local girl who clearly didn't want to be there. Usually in an Indian restaurant you can at least detect signs that there is a kitchen there, but this one must have been deep under the ground. I suspect it consisted of a microwave oven. The prices were shocking, too - £4 for a beer, and I think it was £3 for a miniscule plate of pilau rice. I only realised this afterwards when the bill came.
There were so many alarm bells, but normally you can't go wrong with an Indian, and a bit of shabby decor is usually no measure of the quality of food and is for the course. However this one is definitely one to be avoided. Saying that, though, Balloch seemed to be devoid of anything else. So if you are passing through bring your own sandwiches :)

I would personally like to thank the owners for giving me that, once in a lifetime, unforgetable meal that will stay with you till the day you die. It has to of been the worst most disgusting slop i have ever put in my mouth.
As for the place its self. first impression of the interior decor. The owners dont appear to give a hoot about it frankly. Shades of we are only after your money. You can sit in a dirty uninspiring and tasteless space.

Next, service. The waiter, was an indian fellow, who looked like he had recently fell out of his bed, smoked lots of weed then staggered to his work. His dress sense was appaling. Dirty training shoes. old jeans and a shirt that loked like it was due a wash a fortnight ago.

service was slow, when the meal arrived, We ordered nothing special, set meal for 2. Vastly over priced menu. This is a resteraunt that thinks its a city centre big boy, when in reality its anything but. First thing to note, tiny portions, no apparent attention to presentation. Same for quality there was none. Think of the cheapest nastiest supermarket ready meal curry you have ever had. Now add some old dirt and it would still taste better than the guff served here.

It appears that this place actually survives on its late night takeaway trade, Serving their substandard slop to drunken yobs who fall in from the surrounding night clubs. One can only assume they are deaf in the mouth.

Conclusion. If you have to eat your own fingers, It is preferable to a meal here. Avoid it like the plague. Dont say you were not warned!

My husband and I visited Balloch/Loch Lommond for our wedding anniversary. We both ate at the Golden Star Indian restaurant over the August Bank Holiday weekend and thought the food was well below standard. We would actually state that it was the worst indian meal we have ever eaten, and we go out for an indian meal on a regular basis. The food we had was very dry and tasteless. My husband had chicken biriani and i had Chicken Korma. As both meals come with sauces the last thing we expected, was to have dry chicken to which the sauces never made it any better, as they were completely tasteless. Needless to say if we ever visit Balloch again we would definately avoid this restaurant.
