Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This magnificent little eaterie is one of the best-kept secrets in the New Town. What’s more, Simple Feast does exactly what it says on the tin. This isn’t just any motorway café-type kitchen churning out the chunky chips, butties and baps, Simple Feast really does offer great food. All the bread is freshly baked on the premises, which simply adds to the amazing aromas. Don’t be put off by the limited amount of space or the queue for coffees and takeaways, it really is worth the wait. The giant-sized portions are awe-inspiring, but as ever it’s not size that matters, it’s the taste. The flavours are outstanding, from handcrafted burgers with coriander that explodes in the mouth, roast beef with melted cheese, mouth-tingling mustard and onions, greek salad with a cheeky kick of fresh mint, or even the lovely hummus and roasted vegetable panini. It may be a small and sometimes cramped affair but it’s definitely a place to relax and happily lose an hour or two. Let the feasting begin.

  • High point: The menu projected onto the wall inside an antique picture frame
  • Low point: Too many tables

Really friendly service! Really lovely food, not the cheapest but fair for the price. Very small and slightly cramped, but definately worth a visit.
