The newest addition to this burgeoning Edinburgh collection of dining rooms enjoys a prime location between the Shore and the Scottish Government HQ at Victoria Quay. As in the restaurant’s sister branches on Howe Street and in the West End there’s a vast dinner selection as well as set lunch and party menus, along with a comprehensive wine list that’s worth taking time to pore over. With its floor-to-ceiling windows, wood-panelled interior and extensive outdoor decking, A Room in Leith can be both cosy winter retreat and the ideal summer gathering place. The food is hearty, unpretentious and presented with strong attention to detail. Aubergine, cherry tomato and artichoke parcels make for a pleasant appetiser, the sweet taste of the stuffing counterbalanced by a tangy salsa verde and red wine syrup. Crumbly in texture, the starter of chicken, crab and Ayrshire bacon terrine is also a little bland in taste, though the accompanying sweet red pepper marmalade compensates. Of the mains, Parma ham-wrapped monkfish fillet has a satisfying firm texture, the fish stuffed with an olive tapenade and served on a creamy roasted garlic mash, while the slow-cooked shin of Borders beef slides effortlessly onto the fork and dissolves in the mouth. Finish with a choice from the selection of classic puddings, or order a glass of port and kick back and relax as the water laps at the decking.

The food at a room in Leith is very good. An ever changing menu means there is always a good choice.

If you like cheese you must have a cheese board......delicious!

Went last saturday and have to say that the food was very good (tho pricey) for the size of portions. The salmon starter was a little disappointing due to being served with iceberg lettuce - which took away from the quality of the salmon. Other than that - the staff are friendly and accommodating and it is a wonderful space to visit.
