Battered road signs, empty whisky cartons and framed sketches of Old Edinburgh give this patriotic bar a pleasantly cluttered atmosphere. Located on the Royal Mile, Whiski is an ideal place for tourists, and during the summer months can get quite busy. As one might expect, the pub features a wide range of whiskies – 220 to be exact. However, there is also a delicious list of whisky cocktails that deserves praise. The Apricot Smash has a lively tang, and the Rob Roy, described as 'the nearest thing to Scotland’s national cocktail', is a sugary mix of Famous Grouse, red vermouth, bitters, and maraschino cherries. The menu serves likeable, Scottish-inspired dishes. Whiski’s own smoked salmon and haddock fish-cakes are plump with a fine crust. The vegetarian haggis tower resembles a Seventies jelly mould due to its spherical shape and gradations of haggis, tatties and neeps. Poured over the haggis dish is Whiski’s own sauce: a silky, peppery gravy. An expertly grilled rib-eye steak comes with hefty amounts of fries, onion rings and a crisp side salad. The moist chocolate fudge cake is made even sweeter with a sprinkling of caster sugar and a dollop of cream on the side.
