This review is taken from the 2010 edition.
The staff, several key ingredients in an extensive menu and the seriously strong limoncello, all hail from Sorrento. Actually, the pizza chef is from Naples, but all in all, it’s safe to say this is one Italian restaurant that has a genuinely traditional family feel. Run by brothers Luca and Peppe, Bacco’s menu is nothing groundbreaking, but the quality of the food really is. A layered starter of baked aubergine and cheese encased in a rich, herb-infused tomato sauce is satisfying, soft and peppery. The main dishes are equally moreish, a seafood pasta in particular hitting all the right spots, and for dessert, a raspberry tiramisu – which makes for a refreshing change from the norm. But, as great as the dishes are, they come second to the seriously impressive wine list. With a selection of 55 wines, all of which are available by the glass, you’ll be hard pushed not to find something to suit your palate. Just be aware of the price tag.
- High point: Wine list
- Low point: Price of some wines

Absolutely the worst Italian restaurant I have ever visited.
Terrible food, Waiters who couldn't give a damm and the owners who sauntered around only paying attention to the female guests. YOU give Italians a bad name guys.
Not impressed and I would not reccommend to anyone.BEWARE; Has rebranded as Bellini's . Same owners and dreary staff.

Was told by a friend that Bacco was a really nice place to go in Shawlands so i took my friend who was back in glasgow for a visit from Palma. Was a really lovely meal, including some delicious cocktails. The staff were really friendly and gave us some great recommendations from the menu. One of the nicest italian meals i have had outside of Italy.

I am afraid that our experience was extremely negative. We booked on the List's recommendation, to give a New Zealand friend dinner before his departure, but found that we had been placed next to a loudspeaker which was blaring out loud music, to the point that we could not hear ourselves speak. Two requests to have the music lowered produced only a small reduction in volume and the second request was met by open hostility on the part of the staff. We left without ordering, so cannot comment on the quality of the food, but we will not be going there again.

I was taken out for my birthday by some friends. Had a thouroughly enjoyable meal followed by cocktails in the wine bar which is really nice and cosy great for a drink with friends. The cocktail and wine menu is great lots to choose from. I would personally recommend the cosmopolitan. Delicious!!
If you are looking for a nice meal and somewhere to have a drink afterwards I would definetley recommend Bacco.

Just had the best birthday buffet lunch with 30 friends and family in the private upstairs area of Bacco. The food was fantastic and they just kept bringing out more fabulous dishes. We had mussels, prawns, italian meats and cheeses, olives, pizza (which was the best I had ever tasted), smoked salmon and wonderful Italian meatballs and much much more. The service was great and the staff lovely I had such a fabulous day and nothing was too much trouble for them. Every one of our guests commented on how good a day it was.
We have also eaten in the restaurant on several occasions and would highly recommend Bacco if you are looking for good authentic Italian food and excellent wine.

Negative points:
- The customers and the waiters seems to be unhappy to be there
- The waiters are really unpleasant
- The most of the customers are looking their clock watches
- The service is unsatifactory: my boyfriend ordered "mussels with garlic bread" on the menu. No garlic bread served, he asked the waiter for his garlic bread and the guy checked on the menu list to be sure that he had to serve this bread with the dish ... not at all professionnal In another dining table, the customer asked the waiter to take back his lasagna because it wasn't hot ...
My risotto was so banal, I am able to cook the same at home. Not at all the same quality that in Italy. Not at all.
We wait our desserts a long time and unfortunately no italian desserts offered in the lunch menu.
At the end to pay the bill we asked to pay by card and the waiters lost their card machine! We wait still a long time before someone looks after us.The bottles of wine are storing under spotlights, just horrible for the preservation of wines! and it is a French girl who is speaking about that!
The decor is just unimaginative.
"Maybe" just the music is not so awful in this place.

this place is awful. just like the unhappy customers we booked on 5pm.com for a nice girlie catch up and ended up feeling frustrated with service and uneasy with the male attention from the older men. do not waste your money and time there unless you like eating mediocre food and being sleazed upon.

I have just been for lunch at Bacco Italia in Shawlands and had recommended this restaurant to a few of my friends for a special lunch, for a birthday. I read the reviews and thought it sounded great, WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT!!!!
We booked through 5pm.com and it seems the advert is not very clear!!! That aside, we chose our main meals and a friend asked if the starter could be dished up as a main meal. We were told that it would not be a problem. When two of my friends got there meals, I was told that mine had been taken to the wrong table and that I'd have to wait for mine! When we suggested that there had also been a mistake with the meal that was meant to come as a main meal but looked like a starter we were told that its the same dish for starter and main meal, as he scurried away!!! I DON'T THINK SO!!! A few minutes later a waitor came up and said there had been a mistake but by that time we were pretty fed up with the service. The bill came to approx £50, for lunch which was well overboard for a mediocre lunch and bad service. I will making a point of letting friends and family know not to waste their money there and to choose a different restaurant. I wish we had!!!
