Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.

The first thing you notice in Cucina LC (named for its owner Lorena Crolla) is the lovingly printed chalkboard menu. Printed with dozens and dozens of options, it wraps around the walls behind the service counter, and it becomes quickly obvious that this is the kind of establishment that goes about its business with passion. For those with time to eat in, the dining area is small but cosy, with a bright wall-width window, a shelf of recipe books in the corner and some distressed tables which are a little low for eating comfort. Choose from baked potatoes, a baker’s dozen of salads – which include herb couscous with roast vegetables and feta or Thai udon noodles lightly flavoured with sweet chilli sauce – and daily specials that might include grilled chicken or Asian roast pork belly with crackling. The sandwich and wrap list is too extensive to get into (an indulgent and packed-full chicken, chorizo, cheddar and sour cream hot panini comes recommended, though), but have fun with the odd titles when asking for a brie and pâté Happy Marriage or a tuna salad and guacamole Classic Love.

  • High point: The sandwich menu goes on forever
  • Low point: Some tables a little low for comfort

Reviews of Cucina LC (68 Haymarket Terrace, Edinburgh)

1. Giulio, Haymarket Terrace – 3 December 2009, 9:20amCucina LCReport

My favourite place in Haymarket Terrace. Don't go much but when I do it's great. Lovely coffees (Mocha in particular!) and great selection of tantalising food.

Lunchtime salads are very generous and very tasty!

It's not that far from the city centre so give it a try.
