Eating & Drinking Guide 2008

This review appears in the The List's Eating & Drinking Guide 2008 – in the shops now or buy online.

From the red VIP rope at the door to the faux chandeliers, carpet prints lining the walls and comfy leather chairs, Revolution is all about style. The proprietors may not be pumping in pure oxygen, but it's very easy to lose all sense of the world outside as you sip a vodka-based drink and become seduced by a mezze platter. Indeed, like a glamorous little slice of Las Vegas, there are no clocks in this bar. Unusually, this gastro pub has a fairly small, selective menu, but there's still something for even the most demanding of palates, from sharing platters filled with stuffed baby peppers, hummus and feta cheese to rustic paninis, and from reliable spicy Moroccan chicken breast to bangers and mash. The menu even includes a couple of recipes at the back so you can recreate the whole experience at home. The selection of desserts is disappointingly small, but what it lacks in terms of choice it definitely makes up for in taste. The New York-style cheesecake with red fruit compote is one sweet treat.

  • High point: The Revolution mezze
  • Low point: Black glitter balls

A very shiney place, lots of vodka, wouldn't like to be in there on a Saturday night, would be very sticky and sicky. However, during the week good place to have a drink and eat. Food is above average with a very good menu. Good prices.
