The website proclaims 'fresh, healthy, happy food' and, while this is true, they fail to mention the glorious combination of photographic-quality platters piled high with food that surpasses the taste and quality of many competitors. In addition to this the style-conscious will adore the attention to detail in the bright and welcoming interior without the slightest hint of pretention. Assagini (a gorgeous selection of antipasti) is worth sharing if you can limit yourself, or a mound of imported olives and capers will leave you wondering if a main course is necessary. Pasta mains are rich and full of flavour – you can even ask for wholemeal varieties. Organic pizza dough complements fresh toppings, but the calzone is king here, arriving glistening and swollen with home-made meatballs, spinach and basil. You may not be able to manage dessert, but it would be a shame not to sample the light and creamy panna cotta. Can it get any better? The answer is yes: the drinks menu (including organic 'sparklers' replacing ubiquitous cola) has gorgeous imported wines and much for those not wishing to drink alcohol. Add to the mix a healthy children's menu with the same loving preparation as the adult one and you have a pretty perfect place to dine at any time.
- High point: Happy food – literally
- Low point: Daytime parking may be difficult

I love this restaurant. The food is great and the service is very friendly and helpful. BYO wine with free corkage Sun-Wed plus a good wine list. The bright interior is lovely on a dull Edinburgh day. Zanzero is child-friendly and has excellent facilities for changing babies. Highly recommended for a relaxed long lunch or for dinner; also good for coffee.

Really brilliant restaurant. Visited Zanzero for the first time and had a fantastic meal here; delicious authentic Italian cooking that doesn't cost the earth. Apparently they had just launched a new menu on the night so if you've been before I would recommend going back to try out the new dishes! The friendly, efficient staff made the evening even more enjoyable, despite being under pressure on a busy Saturday night, and their good service and excellent food means I will certainly be back again.

Terrible. 2 pasta mains. One heavy, heavy cream sauce with after taste that lasted way too long. One uncooked pasta with a weak tomato sauce (passata from Tesco, perhaps) and beef / pork meatballs that had not thawed. £5 for a pint of Italian lager, £2.75 for a can of juice. Trying hard to think of a positive - oh yes, the young Australian girl serving was pleasant while the young guy was a bit creepy. New town prices for poor quality food.
Avoid - give it a wide steer.

When we looked at the menu we were quite disappointed as there was only a small range of pizza and pasta dishes available - nowhere near as many choices as we had seen online. It appears you do not get the full pizza menu when using the list card as we did see the full list on another menu on the way out.
However, the food we did have was very nice especially the meatball pizza which was great. The cocktails and fresh fruit juice drinks were also very good.
