It would be easy to miss 279 Café Bistro among the Partick shops and hairdressers. Inside, the décor is calming and minimalist, with tan leather benches and chunky wooden tables on a Mediterranean stone floor. After café service during the day, from 6pm a set-price menu offers four starters, four mains and a host of desserts that change weekly. To open, chickpeas in a tomato and spinach sauce are perched on crostini with leaves. A roasted aubergine ratatouille with herb couscous is light and full of sweet peppery flavour. Strawberry and melon cheesecake comes in a soufflé dish and has a glorious texture. Hand-made pizzas are a speciality of the daytime café menu, with the emphasis on fresh ingredients and inventive combinations.
