This relative newcomer impresses guests with its modern, stylish décor and intimate atmosphere. The menu places emphasis on meat and seafood dishes – the fish selection largely depends on what turns up in the day's catch. It might include oven-baked salmon with baby onions and cherry tomatoes, drizzled in tangy lemon sauce. The calamari rings are wrapped in a light and crisp batter, providing the ultimate finger food combined with a thick, garlicky dip. The Bianca pizza abandons traditional cheese and tomato toppings in favour of sliced baby potatoes, rosemary and extra virgin olive oil. The Venezia wine list is full and well annotated, with prosecco available by the glass. An open kitchen allows diners to watch the native Italian chef at work, while an in-house pianist provides alternative entertainment at the weekend. The classical renditions of chart hits should be cheesy, but they actually work quite nicely in the given setting. Confident and cheerful waiting staff are a bonus.
- High point: Fresh-tasting food
- Low point: Slightly remote Broomielaw location
