Starting with a menu that kicks off with a home-made vegetarian sushi box (£1.95), it's immediately apparent that Cherry & Heather is not your typical takeaway. This exemplary bolt-hole in Cessnock (just off Paisley Road West, next to Bellahouston post office) provides a globe-spanning range of freshly prepared sandwiches, soups and other treats. Your deli roll might be stuffed with roast pork and cranberry chipotle or French brie, baby spinach, sun-dried tomatoes and caramelised red onion marmalade. The price – £2.25 – is remarkable for such quality. And their efforts haven't gone unnoticed – a BBC food award panel has reportedly been sniffing about. Quite an achievement for a tiny place with only five or six seats in an unfashionable part of the city.
