Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.

Cherry and Heather is a takeaway, deli and café close to Cessnock subway station run by a husband and wife team who firmly believe that good food can make you happy. The owners also have an eye for quality, serving restaurant-standard food in a relaxed café environment. There's a slightly oriental feel to the place with paper lantern light fittings and fake cherry blossom jostling alongside all the jams, tinned French pate and a basket of fine Tapa Bakehouse bread. The menu reflects this Eastern slant with sushi on offer as well as pleasant homemade soups, a daily casserole and exotic sandwich choices. Chorizo with smoked mayo, brie and caramelised red onion and beetroot with goat's cheese pate are among the other highlights. New this year is the introduction of hot pastries such as a spicy chicken tart. Everything is prepared with fresh, quality ingredients and reasonably priced with fine Bei & Nannini Italian coffee and delicious carrot cake to round off the experience. Food-wise Cessnock is on the up thanks to these trailblazers.

This is one of the best small deli's in the city - with fantastic fresh home made sushi, noodles, spicy potato salad

3. Claire...., Glasgow – 24 April 2009, 4:41pm5 starsCherry and Heather Fine FoodsReport

The absolute best sandwiches/rolls (and cakes!) I've ever tasted.

There simply isn't anything quite like this place for miles around. Well worth seeking it out for the delights within. A fantastic aray of sandwiches completely removed from the "coronation chickens" and "prawn mayo's" of the world. The only problem you'll encounter in here is what NOT to have. Also look out for great soups, changed daily, amazing cakes and lovely coffee. A lunch time essential and no mistake.

Its a small shop, but they have shown what can be done with imagination, care and a lot of hard work. A really great place to have a coffee or to get some very special sandwiches or something for lunch. When there is a queue for sandwich takeaways at lunchtime, there is not a lot of room!

Long may this initiative last, and hopefully inspire some others...what is needed now is a really good wee restaurant in this part of Paisley Road West, and of course a sensible and straight pedestrian link between Cessnock Undergrtound Station and Pacific Quay, and the BBC and Science centre.... Something that was promised years ago...
