This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.
Trading from the same spot since the mid-1960s, Giovanni's has quietly and steadily built up a customer base that spans from Musselburgh to the Grassmarket, and it's easy to see why. Refurbished in 2000, the menu has since grown, with the traditional chip shop fare now expanded into baked potatoes, vegetarian kebabs, and, in the past few months, pasta made fresh on the premises. Owned and run by the local Pacitti family, the shop is now open seven days a week and offers delivery into the city centre. Pizzas are made to order in front of you, and arrive wonderfully thin, making it all about the fresh, juicy ingredients, light on the grease and heavy on the toppings, while the fish and chips are also generous in portion.

Do not phone this chippy if you want polite customer service and expect to pay a pound like it says for delivery. The women on the phone was abrupt and rude could not make out what I was saying and when they decided to bump the delivery up to two pound, she said listen it's two pound darling and hung up the phone!!
