A relative newcomer to the Edinburgh restaurant scene, Kam Po has set its standards pretty high. With beautifully fresh fare and service so attentive it borders on embarrassing, it's only a matter of time before news of this family-run Southside gem spreads further afield than its local area. The starters are comparatively pricey, with shredded chicken with plum sauce just shy of the £6 mark, but bite into the juicy meat in its mouthwatering coating and the extravagance is immediately justified. Although the selection of main courses isn't huge, it's thoughtful and includes an excellent vegetarian and fish range. The shredded duck, nestled in beansprouts, is cooked to perfection and requires only half a portion of fluffy fried rice to satisfy even the heartiest of appetites. The Singapore vermicelli, although peppery, is a tad bland, and could easily serve as a shared side dish rather than a main course. There are no surprises as far as desserts go, but the toffee apple is so sweet and crunchy it would seem rude not to indulge. Kam Po's atmosphere and menu promise an experience that will leave you smiling, and you can't really ask for more.
