By day a very good deli and café, by night (four times a week, that is) a delightful bistro, Mise en Place is one reason why Southsiders don't need to rely on the transport infrastructure to maintain a good quality of life. Clean white lines and thoroughly modern fittings are designer-conscious enough for anyone, yet somehow the overwhelming feeling is warm rather than cool. There is a sense of informality that comes from dining in a deli, but everything is just so: you can feel at ease and well taken care of. The menu sticks to uncomplicated dishes with imaginative ingredients, such as chicken breast with celeriac and mushroom slaw. Weekly specials include the 'tart of the kitchen', which, if it's mushroom and tarragon, will be delicate in texture and make you swear to put those two ingredients together yourself sometime. A fish-cake main course is no lightweight, melding considerable hunks of salmon and potato, reliably freshened up with coriander. Buerre blanc is a mellifluous accompaniment (once you work out how to pick up the little jug it comes in). Many of the evening dishes are also served during the day in a slightly different form. So, sometimes by Saturday night, options start to run low – including (if you're unlucky) the plum and pecan crumble, but hopefully not the opulent pavlova with berries.
- High point: An extra mini-lemon meringue pie with the coffee
- Low point: Hot sauce in jug with no handle

The service here is AWFUL. I have been 4 times in the hope that each time will be better than the last but although the food is good they really need to invest in some good waiting staff.

Not As good as I expected considering it is on the HitList. The food was OK although the portions were fairly small for the price. The sole goujons come with a tiny bit of salad and if my partner hadn't ordered a side order of wedges she would have gone hungry.
One big issue I had was the drinks prices. We were charged 3.50 for a glass (about 200ml) of water and 2.00 for a glass of coke.
I doubt we will be going back.
