Shopping malls and exquisite dining experiences don't immediately spring to mind as easy bedfellows. But this hasn't prevented the opening of an ambitious venture on the top floor of Edinburgh's Ocean Terminal. Sky Bar and Grill is a modern diner with handsome views out over the Firth of Forth. In clement weather, there's plenty of space on an impressive terrace for alfresco dining. Inside, the décor is minimalist, red wine shades prettily decorating the walls, which give way to a busy open plan kitchen. The menu is ambitious, but the food doesn't always deliver on its promises. Black tiger prawns with nam jim sauce lacks the fragrance and taste explosion you'd expect, while crab claw meat with mango and coriander would be superb with fresher crab. The safer ground of salads and steaks fare better – sautéed potatoes with smoked salmon makes you crave more, while a cut of rib-eye steak is cooked to perfection and lifted by a fiery horseradish cream. Sky Bar and Grill may not quite merit a visit out to this retail centre just to eat, but if you're nearby, it's worth coming to check out the marine view.
- High point: Family friendly with fine views
- Low point: Ambitious dishes lack real quality

Sky Bar & GrillReport -
Fantastic views across the firth of forth and Britannia, coupled with great food and friendly service makes this a perfect place to eat out. Not a typical food court!
Wide menu, ranging from fresh soups, to filled rolls, to full meals. Would recommend you try the fish and chips - probably the best ive tasted! All the food is very fresh tasting, and there is always excellent choice available.
Staff are friendly and helpful, and prices are good for the portion size. Very family friendly aswell.
They also hold club nights, with DJ's, Vegas Nights and musicians. Have been to a couple of Vegas Nights, which are all well organised and always good fun
The outside terraced area is perfect to relax on a sunny day, with a coffee or cocktail.h
