Set in a leafy Victorian townhouse in the West End, the Bistro at One Devonshire Gardens is the dining room of what just might be Glasgow’s most elegant hotel. The restaurant has a classic Victorian dining room feeling, with a fireplace, lamps, muted lighting, white tablecloths and tartan carpets all encircled by huge bay-windows. However luxurious and plush the dining area is, even with the relaxed music in the background, the atmosphere may too be stuck in the Victorian era as it can be rather muted. Classic dishes such as oysters au naturelle or fine quality steaks – which can be served with sautéed snails if one so desires – mingle on the menu with high calibre dishes served up with a twist of creativity. For starters, a lettuce gazpacho comes with blow-torched tiger prawns or a delightfully frothy leek and potato cappuccino served with truffle oil and croutons. Main courses include soft, pink, roast rump of Dornoch lamb, served with a sweet hazelnut purée. Alternative dishes include halibut steak on the bone with confit peppers or a simple clam and chorizo linguine. This is certainly a place where a chef's talent is showcased to the max.
- High point: Pretty exceptional food
- Low point: Hushed atmosphere

Bistro at One Devonshire GardensReport -
I would only recommending visiting this hotel if you like a stuffy and prententious service. Places like this could learn from the customer service in the US. As a non drinker I was felt complelled to make up excuses for not drinking. Sorry to post this but i feel people need to be honest about this hotel.
