Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.

This laid-back bistro is an oasis of bohemian cool in a fairly barren patch of town, that brings a sense of the West End to the East. The décor is confidently retro, the lighting a series of enormous paper puffball shades illuminating the eclectic mix of charming paintings and drawings that hang on the back wall of the mezzanine level. It’s informal all-day dining that might begin with a tower of French toast, a full breakfast or a simple bowl of muesli. The same menu runs throughout lunch and dinner offering simple well-cooked dishes with the emphasis strongly on home-cooked comfort food. There are a couple of starters on offer alongside nibbles of olives, bread and an olive oil balsamic dip. The blackboard special of steak pie comes in a dish filled to the rim with lean, tender meat and button mushrooms, topped with light crisp pastry and served with a generous side of mash – it makes for desirable food at reasonable prices. Without trying too hard, Tibo does the simple things very well.

  • High point: Good homely food done well
  • Low point: Live entertainment could interfere with romantic tryst

Been a few times and enjoy the laid back style of serving and the foods been good so would recommend to anyone who likes laid back eating places. Not yet been to their alternate Sunday open mic music but expect that to be good.

3. gren, irvine – 29 June 2009, 11:15am1 starTiboReport

Ordered a thirteen pound lamb tagine, immediately sent it back when it simply consisted of three tiny pieces of lamb and looked decidedly unappetizing.

Vastly over priced, small portions.

We were also treated to a nice sight of the chef walking through the restaurant, the only thing dirtier than him was the floor!

2. Claw, East – 25 April 2009, 9:09pm2 starsTiboReport

Very pricey, portions have reduced while price has increased. Not really for the locals.

Sitting here internetthe window seat at Tibo I can only say thisplace is deligntful. A gem of a place that several people I've met near here would do well to recognise!

I'v just enjoyed a feast of a meal in delightful, friendly surroundigs. The soup was excellent, freshly made. The mushroom rusotto was amazing, so tasty, and the chocolate tart - wow!
