The Koh-i-Noor claims to be the first takeaway in Glasgow to serve the now ubiquitous dish of chips and cheese, today seen all over the city in the hands of many a drunk student. But don't let that put you off. The chicken pakora is made with no preservatives, no colourings and no nasty battery chicken: the meat is firm and flavoursome, encased in a batter that's laced with fresh green chilli, garlic and ginger. It has a spicy warmth that even the pastiest of Scots could handle. A generous selection of curries are cooked to order – again all using fresh ingredients – while the usual burgers, kebabs and chips (with or without cheese) round out the menu. The flickering neon lights outside may not make it look like the most desirable place on Gibson Street, yet the food inside (cooked by a husband and wife team) says something very different.
