Say ‘Koh-i-Noor’ to a Glaswegian and they’re more likely to think of curry than of the famous Indian diamond – and both the restaurant near Charing Cross and this takeaway near Glasgow University have thoroughly earned that right of association over the years. There’s a large, classic Indian menu, with burgers and kebabs too. Once orders are placed it's nice to be able to peer beyond the counter and see a meal being prepared with skill and care. Punjabi masala is typical: a clean, creamy heat from the sauce, a hint of cumin. Chicken pakora – lightly coated in garlic, chilli and spices – is the local favourite (Robert Carlyle is said to be a fan), but a close second is the speciality pizza, with cheese grilled over [italicise over] the other toppings.
- High point: Pakora is a cut above
- Low point: Having to wait until you're home to eat it!
