This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.
A classic Bangladeshi menu, friendly staff, spotlessly clean premises and – perhaps – the free poppadum and chutney with every order keep the phone ringing at Sonar Gao. There’s nothing out of the ordinary about the menu, but a consistently high standard with some stand-out turns keeps this place high in the affections of choosy curry-loving Leithers. Aloo chaat is a top-class starter, spicy potatoes studded with cucumber and coriander. The tandoori specialities are particularly good, and there’s a better than average selection of breads. For veggies, the sabzis use a peculiar mix of vegetables, so if you want to avoid a Brussels sprout popping up (which you probably do) choose a non-mixed curry, like the aubergine and mushroom jalfrezie which is delicious, though very spicy.
