The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).
In 2005 two friends decided to open a café together and, given their shared passion for travelling, the café's nomadic theme was a given. The result of their collaboration was Café Wander and their success led them to open a second, smaller branch on Sauchiehall Street in 2007. In the bright and cheerful West George Street basement, the owners' wanderlust is evident: there's a pillar plastered with postcards, and walls are covered with striking photographs of exotic locations. The menu offers typical café fare, such as a choice of sandwiches, wraps, panini, baked potatoes and two home-made soups. Café Wander on Sauchiehall Street has only two tables inside. But here, if you fancy doing so and the weather allows, sit outside. A large juicing machine rumbles busily in the background and Café Wander serves a mean smoothie. The 'deluxe' version is a tangy mixture of apples, oranges and ginger to give it an extra zingy kick.
- High point: Cheerful staff
- Low point: Pretty unimaginative sandwich fillings
