Part of a private members club which has seen many a celebrity wandering through its door, this place manages to pull off that exclusive-yet-relaxed vibe, with just enough class to make diners feel special, but none of the pretentiousness that can come with high prices. The stylish, urbane dining area has the look and feel of an upmarket New York bistro and has clearly had no expense spared in its design. Snazzy young serving staff take good care of a range of customers – businessmen in suits, casual couples and a selection of those Glaswegians that like to think of themselves as part of an elite. Jazz tinkers in the background and steaks sizzle on the grill. Steaks are key here – big, fat, juicy, well-hung steaks that come in a variety of shapes, cuts, sizes and weights. They are enormous and perfectly charred on the outside with the flavour of the char-grill melding with the quality Scottish meat. Side orders include a portion of enormous hand-cut chips the size of Jenga blocks. Whilst the steaks stand out, nothing wildly different is to be found elsewhere on the menu – but everything that’s served up is fantastic.
