Beyond the unassuming frontage, Voujon offers a very modern, stylish interior, matched by the tableware and tastefully presented dishes. Happily, the food comes up to the standard of its surroundings. Starters are standard fare but no less enticing – pakora done 'just right' is a prelude to mains whose tastes match up to the look. The chicken tikka massalam is heavy on tang rather than fire, and in a clean sauce free from any oiliness. A simple but generously proportioned vegetable korma bursts with flavour belying its creamy texture. And, unusually perhaps, a word for the humble naan, which is crisp, light and perfect. Voujon also scores highly on the lunch menu, which is exceptionally well priced, and, crucially, a two-course meal completed with plenty of time to get back to the office. For the evening diner, there's the ambience, a lengthy menu (including great fish dishes) and a decent selection of desserts to add to Voujon's qualities, making it is something of a find for anyone venturing a little off the beaten track.
- High point: Stylish dining at very reasonable prices
- Low point: Handier for local residents and workers than city centre dwellers
