This deli with takeaway counter is a virtual godsend for Shawlands. Shelves are crammed with goods and wines (up to 140 bins) emphasising the fact that owner and chef Colin Campbell has a good eye for vintages and producers that aren't easily found, whether a French Bandol or Spanish Tempranillo from Juan Rojo wineries. For carry-out food, the range includes soups, such as a popular Thai red lentil (£2.25 including crusty bread), corn-fed chicken pies and plenty of vegetarian options, such as a goat's cheese and sun-blush tomato tart or roast red peppers stuffed with basmati rice, pine nuts, haloumi cheese and more. Then there are the lovely cakes, all made on site every morning.
