Ostensibly, Remedy's aesthetic is a riot, bringing together high-ceilinged Victoriana complete with ornate cornices and ceiling roses, a slight rustic farmhouse influence, sharp, clean modern lines, and 50s jazz on the sound system. The end result could have been overwhelming. However, at Remedy they do it so subtly that what is actually created is sheer calm. Nestled on busy Pollokshaws Road, it's full of Strathbungo's ladies-who-lunch, spotted with locals popping in for a peaceful cup of good Italian coffee. An Italian theme pervades the menu with its wonderful selection of salamis, cheeses and antipastis, and in the back of the café you can pick up old favourites such as infused olive oils, panetone and tissue-wrapped amaretti biscuits. The menu is also tinged with a Mediterranean flavour, offering perfectly crispy roast vegetable and mozzarella panini, or a lusciously gooey brie and fennel salami ciabatta. There is also a selection of tapas to pick and mix from: marinated olives, anchovies, stuffed peppers and the like. If that's all too exotic for you, there is always the haggis and bacon baguette for true, die-hard Scots. All in all, Remedy is one of the more intriguing propositions to those who desire wholesome food in a real Southside location.
