Midway down the Royal Mile is the Itchycoo Bar and Kitchen, part of the four-star Radisson Blu Hotel. Large chandeliers hang above sleek leather furniture in the spacious dining area. Coffee and pastries are served from 9am daily. A lounge menu is served from noon until late evening and includes a variety of soups, sandwiches, pastas and Mexican-inspired dishes. The more extravagant Itchycoo dinner menu is available from 5.30 to 9.30pm. Itchycoo is committed to Scottish produce and sources its ingredients from a variety of local businesses. Well-informed and friendly staff begin the meal by offering a savoury muffin with butter. Appetisers include a spicy parsnip soup that arrives with slices of apple and swirls of pumpkin oil floating on the surface. A delicious stew of coco beans, diced root vegetables, squid rings and mussels is accompanied by a crisp halibut fillet. A side of herb-flecked truffle risotto is a stiff and creamy concoction. For dessert, the chocolate and praline truffle has a sweet nutty centre. A fruity Chilean sauvignon blanc complements several dishes on the menu.
- High point: Delicious starters
- Low point: Easy to walk past
