On the northern banks of the River Clyde, India Quay offers supreme views of the new Finnieston bridge. The restaurant has the feel of a slick bistro with cool black and white interiors and intimate booths. Service is polished and staff can describe or help recommend dishes with ease. The menu emphasises Punjabi cuisine, offering a smaller choice than the norm for Glasgow curry palaces, but all the dishes are prepared from scratch. A mixed platter includes a selection of pakoras, onion bhajees and samosas, all of which are wonderfully crisp and exhibit only the faintest hint of oil, served with creamy garlic mushrooms, spicy chickpeas and a cooling yoghurt sauce. A main course staple such as lamb bhuna is well executed: the tender chunks of meat are cooked in a ginger, garlic and tomato sauce, which is aromatic and full of rich, spicy flavours. Vegetarians are well catered for, with an entire page dedicated to meat-free meals, while a light garlic naan makes a commendable companion to any main course. To finish, gulab jamam tastes like fried, soft doughnut balls in a warm, fragrant syrup.
