Based in cosy basement premises in Stockbridge, La Concha enjoys a loyal following among fashionable New Town types who receive a warm welcome from proprietors Richard and Angela Morano. La Concha is unusual as Italian restaurants go. Italian (and Spanish) ingredients abound, but Scottish ingredients are to the fore: free-range veal, extra-matured steak and West coast mussels, all sourced from Stockbridge’s local food shops. This means that La Concha’s short menu changes weekly and seasonally depending on what is available. Risotto con barbabietole ai due formaggio is delivered to the table as a shocking pink mound of arborio rice containing chunks of sweet beetroot, with subtle flavours that are the opposite of its garish appearance. Cosciotto d’agnello con ceci – braised lamb shank with red wine and chickpeas served with garlic and herb mash – appears more Scottish than Italian, but contains just enough Italian herbs and spices to draw out the distinction. You won’t find much in the way of pizza or pasta at La Concha – there’s a Pizza Express over the road for that. What you will find here is intimate fine dining with a distinctly Italo-Scots flavour.
- High point: High quality, locally sourced, constantly changing menu
- Low point: Laid-back service can be a little on the slow side

Authentic Italo-Spanish dishes. The chef buys all ingredients fresh at market daily. Nothing "bought-in" everything is cooked on permises. Excellent wine collection at very reasonable prices...and you can hold a conversation without straining your voice or ears. A delicious and delightful exerience with a all the culinary class of true Italian dining ...a must!
