This review is taken from the 2010 edition.
Proceedings at La Concha commence with delightful home-baked bread served with olives and oil while you ensconce with a fine bottle of the house wine. This sets the standards at this most agreeable Stockbridge basement restaurant, run by dedicated husband-and-wife team Richard and Angela Morana, whose effort and enthusiasm are evident in every element, from sourcing to service. Candles complement low-level lighting in a calming space of leather and linen, cream, brown and fabulous flock. Chef Richard's Sicilian-Valencian background fuels a gloriously Mediterranean menu, elevated further by use of fine Scottish produce, whether west coast mussels or Dumfriesshire veal. Chunky king prawns with chilli and sherry are regal indeed, while the aforementioned mussels rest in a soup-like sauce of tomato and oregano – save some bread! Mains such as the veal – unusually matched with mushrooms and marsala – and swordfish steak with olives and capers typify La Concha's imaginative approach. Tray bake-style tiramisu, textbook in taste, and lovely light flourless chocolate cake to close a quite exemplary meal.
- High point: Simply superb, imaginative, individual, homely cooking
- Low point: No need for salt on the broccoli

3 unhappy diners who will not return due to too much salt in every dish and also we had 2 mains that were delivered to the table cold while our third meal arrived 4minutes later, no one returned to the table to check that we were finally enjoying our meals.

Eaten here twice, this is a little-known gem.
Really fantastic fresh cooked food and very reasonably priced. Great wines and very attentive service.
Edinburgh is full of over-priced Pizza and Pasta joints. At last we have found an Italian Restaurant that serves seriously delicious authentic dishes, isn't too expensive and there isn't an accordian player or red rose seller in sight!!!!!

Authentic Italo-Spanish dishes. The chef buys all ingredients fresh at market daily. Nothing "bought-in" everything is cooked on permises. Excellent wine collection at very reasonable prices...and you can hold a conversation without straining your voice or ears. A delicious and delightful exerience with a all the culinary class of true Italian dining ...a must!
