Having changed hands since our last visit, the Dayraa Grill House has seemingly slipped in standards, perhaps concentrating instead on the takeaway market here in Pollokshields. The ground floor space still offers a warm and aroma-filled open kitchen, where you can watch food being prepared, though the surroundings are otherwise sparse and service can feel rather distant at times. (A more stylish dining room is downstairs.) Along with traditional curries, the large menu also incorporates burgers, kebabs, baked potatoes and pizzas. A mixed grill starter promises several types of tikka meat, lamb chops and kebabs, with a good balance of spices and crisp side salad, but the meat is rather tough. South Indian garlic chilli chicken arrives in an authentic cast iron dish. The sauce is thick and spicy, though tamarind dominates the flavours. Lamb bhuna seems to use a similar generic gravy and tastes almost identical, though the plentiful lamb is tender. Punjabi rice - fluffy and cooked with spring onions, green peppers and a hefty amount of ghee - is a delicious accompaniment.
- High point: Open-plan kitchen
- Low point: Sauces need more attention
