This review is taken from the current (2011) edition.
With three branches in the area, Silver Bowl has cornered the Leith market for modern Chinese and Thai take-out. Thai is available from the Albert Place branch, while Chinese can be picked up or delivered from all three. Booking can be made easily online but frustratingly the website doesn’t let you mix and match between the two menus. While the Chinese can occasionally be a tad greasy, the Thai selection is generally a good bang for your buck, particularly less popular staples, such as the tum talay, a delicious, highly spiced seafood salad. Thai red and green curries – for the most part – seldom disappoint. While highlights on the sundries front on both menus include particularly good soft noodles, and liberal amounts of fresh crunchy veg added into sauces – finally, a takeaway that helps you to your five a day. Hearty portions – particularly of their mighty fine vegetable tempura – complete the picture. While the menu doesn’t break any boundaries, Silver Bowl's fast, friendly delivery and generous portions should ensure its continuing popularity.

I stupidly went back here tonight because (a) it was pouring rain and it was nearby and (b) I wanted something quick and reasonable. I went for something completely different this time (Chicken Chilli and Garlic Chow Mein Noodles) and again it was so disappointing. It had a horrible gelatinous substance on it and the only vegetables in it were giant pieces of onion and green pepper, not to mention that it was completely bland - no sign of chilli or garlic!. For £5.70 you would expect at least some effort to have gone into it. I actually feel bad writing two bad reviews for the same place as I love food and love to give places a chance but for all the praise this place gets the standards should be so much higher. Very very very disappointing, but I suppose it's my own fault for going back! It shan't happen again!

The guy above me is right.
When I opened my noodles I smelt something that reminded me of wet dog. I then opened my Crispy Chilli Beef and it was soggy, in a puddle of brown oil and tasted like overdone but very old roast beef from toby's carvery!
Im not one of these guys who gets angry when something isnt perfect, I never complain about food but jesus that was so bad I had to say something to somebody!!!

I had a takeaway here last night and it was terrible. The worst takeaway I've had in memory. I picked it up myself after ordering it so therefore it hadn't (or shouldn't have) been sitting there for long but it tasted awful. Some of the chiken looked and tasted like it had been cooked a week prior to me getting it, whilst two or three pieces seemed fresh. Despite this, it all tasted offensive. I was really dissappointed as this place is raved about. My meal was so tasteless and disgusting that I ended up throwing it out. I NEVER do this. I'll generally pick at something, but I just couldn't bring myself to eat this at all! Very disappionting and I won't be recommending this place to anyone!
