Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

Darcy’s occupies a prime spot in the corner of the basement food court at swanky high-end retail temple Princes Square, offering weary shoppers the option of taking a load off over mixed Scottish and world cuisine, cocktails, champagne or traditional afternoon tea. A recent refit (and rebranding as Darcy’s Café Du Monde) has left the g1 Group-owned outlet looking swish, with red leather booths and continental café-style round tables and chairs. Yet the essence of class about Darcy’s proves to be frustratingly only surface deep in ways, because some of the dishes come across as slapdash. The hand-made Scottish beef burger is thick and succulent, but arrives squeezed onto a plate so skinny that not losing it over the edge when slicing becomes a fine art. The Thai green curry sauce is delicious, yet the chicken is suspiciously pink inside, but a replacement served char-grilled until black is just mean spirited. However, when Darcy’s get things right they really turn on the style – the haggis gateaux is drenched in an inspired creamy Drambuie sauce, while the sticky toffee pudding is as rich and gooey as a shopaholic deserves their sweet to be at the end of a hard spending spree.

thankyou for sorting this out. I might try and book it for this Friday now for a different event. I will let you know if I have any further problems.

Many apologies Scooby32 for this unfortunate experience. We always try our best to make sure that our participating LIST Card restaurants have all the information they need to run the promotion, and it is disappointing for all concerned when communication breaks down. I have phoned Darcy's personally to resolve the matter as quickly as possible and make sure that they have all of the necessary information to be circulated to staff members. I am glad to hear that your other LIST Card visit was a successful one and that you had a great night out - I hope that this will continue to set the trend for future LIST Card meals and that you go on to enjoy your visit to Darcy's.

1. SCOOBY32, D'ARCYS - PRINCES SQUARE – 18 November 2008, 10:29pm1 starDarcy'sReport

Well, can I just say I didn't get off to a good start. Having just returned from a great night at Tinto's Tapas bar in Battlefield Rd, I was all set to make another List card booking for Friday as a birthday treat for a relative. So imagine my surprise, on identifying that D'arcys was one of the few places to offer Friday evening on the card basis, only to discover that they purport to not actually participate in the List card scheme at all. Strange, as they are on The List Card website. A call to the manager tomorrow will hopefully sort things out, but perhaps The List Card could intervene too? Poor show.
