Eating & Drinking Guide

The 2011/12 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).

This family-owned restaurant, which opened in 2004, is run by four brothers under the watchful eye of their mother Sibbo. There's much that's charming about the place, from the living room-sized dining area to the homely atmosphere. But Sibbo's Delhi Dhabba is a bit of a contradiction. There is something slightly naff about the easy-listening soundtrack, and on occasion service can seem glacially slow and blunt (even on a quiet night). The menu is ever-changing, with two varying à la carte selections that are swapped about nightly, as well as a wide range of specials on a blackboard. Among starters, vegetable samosas can sometimes take some amount of sawing to break up, though the spicy garlic mushrooms - thinly sliced and served in a rich, tangy sauce - are delicious. There's no doubting the quality of the tandoori sirloin as a main course at least: a tasty bit of prime, juicy steak, marinated in tandoori yoghurt spices and served on a steaming hotplate sprinkled in spring onions. That certainly won't leave a bad taste in your mouth.

  • High point: Great steak
  • Low point: Seemingly grudging service

Reviews of Sibbo's Delhi Dhabba (914 Sauchiehall Street, West End, Glasgow)

1. Ella, Glasgow – 3 June 2010, 6:05pmSibbo's Delhi DhabbaReport

I have been going to this restaurant as a regular for a couple of years and each time I go I am consistently impressed by the quality of food, friendly and informal atmosphere, cleanliness and great value.

The restaurant is 'centrally located' off Charing Cross and near Kelvingrove, may be overshadowed in the curry world by 'giants' like Mother India and The Ashoka. By my reckoning, however, curries at Sibbo's taste better than at Rawalpindi, Mister Singh's India and the Ashoka; overall the cooking at Sibbo's is probably on a par with Mother India, for fresh and flavoursome 'home-style' Indian food. A++
