Just a hop, skip and a jump from George Square or a short walk from the Festival Theatre, this sunny Southside café-bistro, with its light wood furniture and pale sanded floors will appeal to hungry students or those looking for a good value lunch or pre-theatre dinner. The eclectic menu ranges from cooked breakfasts, such as Eggs Florentine or buttermilk pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, through to coffee and home-made cakes to sandwiches and heartier hot lunch or early dining options (although there is no special pre-theatre menu). A plump home-made beef burger in a bun arrives with a simple but fresh side salad and fries, while creamy courgette, aubergine and pinenut lasagne is a nice, wholesome twist on an old favourite. Cakes and puddings are expertly made on-site and have a true home-baked appeal. Fluffy lemon cheesecake is light and zingy, while a more indulgent rich plum, cinnamon and ginger sponge pudding is balanced by a tart plum sauce. Although service can be a little lacksadaisical at times, the warm, friendly ambience encourages relaxed lingering. Internet access is on offer in a separate room downstairs, and surfers are welcome to indulge in coffee and cake while using the facilities.
