The 2013 edition of The List's Eating & Drinking Guide is out now – only £5.95 (+p&p).
The principal village on the east shore of Loch Lomond, Balmaha is a popular tourist destination in Scotland's first national park. If you are walking the West Highland Way, ascending Ben Lomond or sailing on the loch, the Oak Tree Inn provides hearty meals to replenish your energy stores, and, if necessary, offers a bed for the night. Although only ten years old, it looks and feels older inside, with tartan carpet, wooden beams and a blazing open fire. Typical of the menu are hearty, good quality pub grub options, such as breaded camembert starter or gammon steak with pineapple and onion rings. Supplementing the menu is a range of specials, including the sausage of the day or the rich, dark and hugely satisfying tender venison and red wine casserole. The menu has a strong focus on local, fresh ingredients: much of the meat is locally reared and the proprietors are starting to grow their own fruit and vegetables. The dessert menu clearly notes which products are home-made, such as the clootie dumpling (from a secret family recipe) that's bursting with fruit and strong cinnamon overtones, or the remarkably light sticky toffee pudding in a moat of butterscotch sauce.

The oak tree (my pub!) is great, if you're planning on heading out on a saturday though try and book a table (only in the restraunt) because it's usually mobbed.
The review tells you of some food on the menu but it's really out dated, we dont do sticky toffe pudding anymore or the sausage of the day, gammon steak or the casserole!!
but we do have vegetarian option of the day, steak and ale pie (AMAZING with homemade chips) and many more.
if your having a sweet, go for the mars bar cheesecake - oohh. my. god.
have fun!!

I arrived for the first time at the Inn on 25th April 2008. From the moment I arrived, to the moment I left, I found the hospitality superb:courteous staff, excellent food and wines and a welcoming log fire. Once settled, a small malt whisky, a view over Loch Lomond to die for and a folk duo playing, took me back to yester years.
This will not be my last visit to the Oak Tree Inn!
