One of the quartet of Swedish-run pubs spread across Leith, Boda is the original branch and, like the others, it’s a classy local that works hard but makes it look effortless. Among the bright corner bar’s unique selling points are a range of cocktails and some novelty vodka flavours including Werther’s Original and Skittles. There’s also an open-mic night on Monday called Chan Bang and a free buffet of colds meats and cheeses between 5–7pm on Fridays. But it’s the ability to appeal to all which sets it apart, with its child-friendliness (up until 5pm), convivial weeknight hangout atmosphere and livelier buzz at the weekend.
- High point: The bar that launched a lot of imitators
- Low point: Deciding between this place or sister pub Victoria on the very next corner

Boda BarReport -
This is by far my favourite pub that I have ever been to... my friends no longer ask me which pub I want to go to on a night out because they know I will always say Boda Bar. The interior is really comfortable with quirky bits and pieces that really give it charector. The bar staff are very warm and friendly I forgot his name but the swedish guy who often works behind the bar is very friendly and chatty and really works to create a welcoming environment. There can be a few rough charectors about Leith but I never seem to run into any in here, the crowd is a good mix of arty types, students and people just looking for a chilled out place to have a drink and a chat theres no pretenious people or snobby yuppies in here in my experience and it never seems to get too crowded for my liking. It is the perfect place to take a date for a night out or for a catch up with a friend.
The music they play is always really cool and never too loud so you can't talk with your friends.
I don't really like old man style pubs or trendy night clubs, or rowdy pubs if you are the same as me you will probably like Boda bar as much as I do.
