The glow from the twin log-fired ovens is the first indication that pizza is taken seriously at this Leith Walk eatery. La Favorita combines the lightest, crispest bases (also available gluten-free) with a long list of both classic and more inventive topping combinations (such as the 'Favorita', featuring smoked salmon, prawns, capers, caviar, crème fraîche and lemon rind). 'Gourmet' pasta is also on offer, including a simple but successful dish of tagliolini tossed in a lively dressing of garlic, chilli and olive oil, paired with tender strips of sirloin enlivened by a dash of sweetish red chilli mustard. Antipasti substantial enough for two include the aromatic fiochetti – pretty roundels of pizza bread stuffed with creamy ricotta cheese, ham and mozzarella. On Sunday afternoons Stevie the clown quietly makes his way from table to table creating animals from balloons, making this a popular stop for local parents and children. But unaccompanied adults feel at home too, surrounded by huge shimmering lampshades and classy black and white posters of screen stars eating spaghetti. La Favorita now also delivers to local post codes using its two liveried minis, so you can also enjoy some of the best pizzas in Scotland in the comfort of your own home.
